Reagan Downloads Inaugural Address 1981: It is time to reawaken this industrial giant, to get government back within its means, and to lighten our punitive tax burden. And these will be our first priorities, and on these principles there will be no compromise...government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. State of the Union Address 1982: We not only cut the increase in government spending nearly in half, we brought about the most sweeping changes in our tax structure since the beginning of this century. After 50 years of taking power away from the hands of the people in their States and local communities, we have started returning power and resources to them. National Defense (Star Wars) Address 1983: The defense policy of the United States is based on a simple premise: The United States does not start fights. We will never be an aggressor. We maintain our strength in order to deter and defend against aggression -- to preserve freedom and peace. Inaugural Address 1985: My fellow citizens, our nation is poised for greatness. We must do what we know is right, and do it with all our might. Let history say of us: These were golden years -- when the American Revolution was reborn, when freedom gained new life, and America reached for her best. Speech On Limited Federal Government 1985: The simple truth is: No matter how hard you work, no matter how strong this economy grows, no matter how much more tax money comes to Washington, it won't amount to a hill of beans if government won't curb its endless appetite to spend. Independence Day Speech 1987: Freedom is not created by government, nor is it a gift from those in political power. It is, in fact, secured, more than anything else, by those limitations I mentioned that are placed on those in government. Berlin Wall Speech 1987: General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! Farewell Speech 1989: Ours was the first revolution in the history of mankind that truly reversed the course of government, and with three little words: "We the People". We the People tell the government what to do; it doesn't tell us. We the People are the driver; the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast.
